Bobby Jenks, the iconic former closer for the Chicago White Sox and hero of the 2005 World Series, has tragically passed away at the age of 44.
Jenks died on July 4, 2025, in Sintra, Portugal, after a courageous battle with stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. He had been diagnosed with the illness and had relocated to Portugal in late 2024 to be closer to family as he fought the disease.
Jenks was born on March 14, 1981, and was best remembered for his pivotal role in the White Sox’s 2005 World Series victory, helping end the team’s 88-year championship drought. His dominant performances on the mound earned him two All-Star selections and 173 career saves, solidifying his place as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
In addition to his remarkable career, Jenks’ post-playing years were marked by resilience and a deep commitment to his family and the sport of baseball. He was honored for his coaching efforts and continued to inspire others until his passing.
