Micah Ledbetter, a 22-year-old resident of Cape Girardeau, tragically passed away on May 9, 2025, following a shooting incident in the 1500 block of Whitener Street.
Micah was one of two victims injured during the shooting. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 12:52 p.m., where they found one individual with a non-life-threatening injury and rushed the other, Micah, to the hospital. Despite efforts to save Micah’s life, the injuries proved fatal, and Micah passed away while receiving medical treatment.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad has initiated an investigation, which led to the arrest of Deandra Leeann Patterson, 27, in connection with the shooting. Patterson faces several felony charges, including second-degree murder.
Friends and family members have expressed their grief online, with one person writing, “My heart is broken. Micah’s spirit will be missed by everyone who knew them.”
The Cape Girardeau community is mourning the loss of a young life taken too soon. Memorial service details will be shared as soon as they are made available by the family.
