Miguel Nava, Dedicated Marine and Local Hero, Tragically Killed in Helicopter Crash in Pine Valley, CA

Miguel Nava, a dedicated and beloved Marine Corps Captain, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash near Pine Valley, California, in February 2025.

Miguel, 28, was one of five service members who perished in the accident when their helicopter struck a mountain during a late-night flight.

Originally from Traverse City, Michigan, Miguel grew up in Comstock Park and was known for his dedication to his country and his community. He was commissioned into the Marine Corps in May 2017 and was promoted to Captain on November 1, 2021. Over the course of his service, Miguel earned several honors, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Miguel’s loss has deeply affected all who knew him. Friends and family have shared touching tributes online, with many expressing their grief and admiration for his service and spirit. "A true hero, and one of the kindest people I had the honor of knowing," wrote one community member.
